The management of the European eel is ambitious in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition to the clear protection of the eel stock, the preservation of the fishery in the state is also a primary goal. In 2017, the state research institute (the Institute for Fisheries) has therefore initiated a stakeholder dialogue building on an analysis of the conflict potential.
The dialogue has been re-started in 2020 and is ongoing until June 2023.
