Blue Transition – Improving the Water and Soil Balance in Our Regions

We are very proud to be part of the new Interreg project “Blue Transition”. Together with 22 partners, we are working to share and develop new European solutions in the field of water and soil management. The project has a budget of around €7 million and will run from October 2022 to March 2026.

This is not a new project for us: Even before it started, we had the opportunity to be part of the successful application process. Our current tasks include project management (on behalf of LIAG) and content support for the governance work package (on behalf of OOWV).

What are the objectives of “Blue Transition”?

The Blue Transition project focuses on developing solutions to ensure the availability of water in the future through sustainable management of groundwater and soil, taking into account the effects of climate change.

Blue Transition takes a number of approaches to achieve this goal. It looks at how groundwater resources in forests, farmland, wetlands, peatlands and nature reserves can be protected and safeguarded in the short and long term. It also develops solutions to ensure a balance between agriculture, natural areas and urban areas.

Another important issue for us is the future availability of water, not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of improving and safeguarding its quality.

For all these approaches, we need not only technical solutions, but also good implementation. We must develop good groundwater modelling skills and reliable, strong governance. Only then can we be sure that project results will be used. Too often, administrative requirements are not sufficiently considered and stakeholders do not fully understand the benefits of a solution. We are working on this!

We are excited to see great solutions and look forward to working with you.

I am happy to support you.
